Glen was the fourth child of Glen & Frances Heath of Hickory Ridge, Arkansas. Shortly after his birth, the Heath family moved to the Calumet Region. Glen attended St. John Township High School where he was an outstanding scholar, athlete and president of his class. Glen joined the United States Navy on Aug. 30, 1943. He trained at Farragut, Idaho, and graduated from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. On Sept. 11, 1944, Glen began service as a TBM-3 Avenger aviation radioman and gunner aboard the aircraft carrier USS Bunker Hill. On April 7, 1945, his plane was shot down during the attack on the Japanese battleship, Yamamoto. His remains were never recovered.
