The Town of Schererville will be beginning work on our Federally Funded ARRA projects in the next few weeks. ARRA projects approved for the Town include resurfacing of Kennedy Avenue from Main Street to Junction Avenue, 77th Avenue from US 41 to Austin Avenue and Lincolnwood Avenue from US 30 to 77th Avenue.

Work will consist of milling off 2” of the existing roadway surface, replacing the asphalt with 2” of new surface, then applying thermoplastic centerline and edge striping.

Milling work is scheduled to begin on 77th Avenue on Monday July 19. This will take approximately 2-3 days to complete. The milling crews will then move directly over to Lincolnwood Avenue and begin the milling process on that roadway. The paving crew is scheduled to follow behind the milling crew on 77th Avenue beginning on July 21. Again, this process will take approximately 2-3 days to complete. When the paving crew finishes 77th Avenue, this should coincide with the milling crew finishing on Lincolnwood. The paving crews will then move over to Lincolnwood and complete the paving on this roadway.

After the new surfaces are in place, a sub-contractor will come in to apply the Thermo-plastic striping. This is scheduled to occur either the week of July 26 or the week of August 2, depending on the progress of the asphalt crews and the weather. This striping will take approximately one week to complete.

THESE ROADWAYS WILL BE CLOSED TO THROUGH TRAFFIC DURING CONSTRUCTION PERIODS. Work crews will be flagging local traffic around the construction machinery. Local residents that MUST travel these roadways should EXPECT delays when it is necessary to travel through the construction zones. WHENEVER POSSIBLE, ALL TRAFFIC IS ENCOURAGED TO FIND AN ALTERATE ROUTE DURING THIS 2-3 WEEK PERIOD. Alternate north-south routes include US 41 and Austin Avenue. Alternate east-west routes include US 30 and 85th Avenue.

Project work on Kennedy Avenue will be scheduled to occur sometime in the middle of August. We will update this message when we receive updated information from our contractor.
