Lance Corporal Steven J. Foy August 8, 1949 – December 19, 1968

Steven was born to Donald & Rita Foy of Whiteside, Illinois. His father passed away at a young age. Rita sent Steven to Hoosier Boys Town in Schererville so Steven desired to become a Marine, and on June 13, 1967, he enlisted. After basic training at Camp Pendleton, California, Steven was assigned to the 26th Marine Regt. and sent to Vietnam. After serving with this Regt. for eleven combat operations, he was assigned to Squad Leader with Co. C, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division. On Dec. 19, 1968, Steven was mortally wounded while aggressively leading his squad in an assault on a fortified enemy village. He is laid to rest next to his father at Calvary Cemetery in Freeport, Illinois.

After his death, Steven’s mother said, “One is only dead when one has been forgotten.”
