Adoption

The Town of Schererville Animal Shelter has great cats and dogs ready for adoption. We have many cats, kittens, and dogs to choose from. They are all lovable and looking for their new forever families. In 2013 we found loving homes for 87 dogs and cats. We take pride in working hard to find the best homes for these wonderful pets. We appreciate all the loving families who opened up their hearts and homes in adopting our past pets that were up for adoption.

The fee to adopt an animal is $65. The fee to adopt an animal is $65. For dogs this fee includes vaccines for rabies, distemper, and the parvovirus, heartworm testing, micro-chipping, and spaying or neutering. For cats the fee will include vaccines for rabies and distemper, SNAP FeLV/FIV test, micro-chipping, and spaying or neutering. Please call us to discuss your interest in an animal.

Pet Tags

  • Pet registration tags are available at the Schererville Police Department during office hours (8:00am - 5:00pm). You will need proof of rabies and either the tags or documentation for the tags. Click here for more information. License renewal period is January - March of every year. After that time, the fee
  • Pet tags are a great way to help us find your animals when they escape from the yard or leash. They are good until the end of the year. If you have any animal related questions please call: (219)865-6992.

Wildlife

We are not licensed to handle wildlife. Indiana Department of Natural Resources is a great resource when you are having issues with wildlife. The DNR can be reached at (219)879-5710.
If you feel that your life or someone else’s is in danger due to any type of wildlife, call 911.
