Joseph M. Uzubell graduated from Lake Central High School in 1979. He attended Vincennes University where he graduated in 1981 with an Associate Science Degree in Law Enforcement. In 1981 he was hired as a Schererville Police dispatcher. Also in 1981, he joined the Schererville Fire Department as an Emergency Medical Technician/Fire Fighter. On September 25, 1985, he was sworn in as a police officer and that same year graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Agency. In 1992, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal and continued in the Patrol Division as a supervisor. After serving 23 years in the Patrol Division, he was assigned to the Information Technology Department. Several months later, he was assigned to be the Fleet Manager of the Police Department as well. Throughout his career many certifications have been and obtained and continuing education has been made a priority. Some of his certifications include DataMaster Operator, Vehicle Crash Investigation I, II, and III. Additionally, he has been certified as a Field Training Officer, Instructor Development, OCAT Instructor, Hostage Negotiator, Bike Patrol Officer, Traffic Engineering, and has taken additional supervision courses. Corporal Uzubell has competed in the World Police and Fire Games as well as the Canadian/American Police and Fire Games. Competing in cycling and track&field, he has received several bronze and silver medals but the gold so far has eluded him.
