GENERAL PURPOSE
Plans, organizes, coordinates and supervises a community recreation program for seniors, adults, and/or youth, including trips, fitness activities, special interest classes and events, sports leagues, special needs and events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develops, organizes, promotes, administers or conducts special events, recreation, programs, trips, for all age groups.
Communicates recreation programs, policies and procedures to staff and the general public.
Assists with the updating of online registration program and other electronic media related to programming. Coordinates schedules and maintains related records and statistics for programs, trips, special events, and personnel. Coordinates and schedules department’s facilities usage, and those owned by other agencies for activities and programs.
Assures that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within budget, performs cost control activities, monitors revenues and expenditures in assigned area to assure sound fiscal efficient use of budgeted funds and budget worksheets, personnel, materials, facilities and time.

PERIPHERAL DUTIES
Performs a variety of miscellaneous administrative duties such as answering phone, typing information, purchasing, correspondence, running errands, room setup including moving tables and chairs, changing sign message, and hanging banners. Assists in the operation of any concession related activities. Assists in the supervising of room rentals when assigned.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
(A)    Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in recreation or a closely related field.    Or
(B)    One (1) to three (3) of experience event planning, recreation programming, or community
engagement preferred, including recreation programming, administrative and managerial responsibilities.    Or
(C)    An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
(A)    Considerable knowledge of recreation programming, and its equipment, facilities, operations and techniques. Knowledge of recreation philosophy, planning and administration.
(B)    Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment, skill in first aid, CPR
(C)    Ability to develop, coordinate, and direct varied activities involved in a community recreation program, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, community leaders, and the general public, ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, ability to plan supervise the work of paid staff and volunteers.
