This full-time position is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing community programs, special events, and recreational activities that serve residents of all ages. GENERAL PURPOSE
The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing community events and special programs that enhance quality of life and foster community engagement. This position focuses primarily on the development, logistics, and on-site management of special events while supporting select recreation initiatives. The Coordinator works collaboratively with staff, vendors, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners to deliver safe, well-organized, and inclusive events.
PERIPHERAL DUTIES
Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering phone, typing information, purchasing, correspondence, running errands, room setup for programs or events including moving tables and chairs, and hanging banners. Maintain administrative systems for facility and events scheduling, budgeting, calendaring, and other functions. Provides administrative support to the office. May performs other departmental duties as assigned by Superintendent and Asst. Superintendent. Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
(A) Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in recreation or a closely related field.
Or
(B) One (1) to three (3) of experience event planning, recreation programming, or community engagement preferred, including recreation programming, administrative and managerial responsibilities.
Or
(C) An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
(A)Basic knowledge of recreation philosophy, planning and administration, and budgeting.
Basic knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operations and techniques used in a comprehensive community recreation program
(B) Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment, skill in first aid and CPR.
(C) Ability to develop, coordinate, and direct varied activities involved in a community recreation program, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participant, instructors, community leaders, and the general public, ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing ability to plan and supervise the work of paid staff and volunteers.
