On April 9, 2025 the Schererville Town Council adopted Ordinance 2022, pursuant to Indiana Code §7.1-3-31 (“DORA Statute”) to establish, a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (hereinafter, “DORA”) in which retailer permittees (i.e., restaurants and businesses that sell alcohol for on-premises consumption) and temporary permittees located in the DORA, allow persons who are at least twenty-one (21) years of age to leave their premises with open containers of alcoholic beverages and be permitted to consume those beverages, in specific DORA identified cups, within the boundaries of the DORA. This Ordinance is intended to help facilitate economic development and benefit the municipality by providing an inviting atmosphere for visitors to patronize restaurants and other businesses within the DORA. The area designated as the “Downtown DORA” consists of the area along Joliet Street between Junction Ave. and Francisca Drive. Signage will be posted designating the area, the map is attached to the Ordinance.
Schererville also created a new event, named “Pennsy, Pints, and Performers” occurring on August 15 and 16, 2025. Live bands will be featured throughout the event, a beer garden within the newly created DORA district, and a bike ride will occur on Saturday August 15 at 1pm. The event will close down Joliet Street between Junction Ave. and Francisca Drive in Downtown Schererville, in front of the Town Hall and Police Station. The event times will be Friday August 15, 2025 from 4pm to 11:30pm and Saturday August 16, 2025 from 2pm to 11:30pm. We look forward to seeing you at our new event in Downtown Schererville.
