Officer Bermingham with his family and k9.Officer Jacob Bermingham was awarded the Hometown Heroes award by Albert's Diamond Jewelers on Saturday August 26th. 

For nearly four decades, the Heroes Awards has been Albert's way of celebrating and recognizing local policemen, firefighters, and EMTS around the Region for going above and beyond to protect our Community. 

The Schererville Police Department nominated Officer Bermingham for the award:

Officer Jacob Bermingham (28 years old) just celebrated one (1) year with the Schererville Police Department (June 2022).  Officer Bermingham was previously with the Lake Station Police Department for five (years).  Officer Bermingham is currently assigned to our BRAVO Power Shift Unit.  The Power Shift allocates more proactive manpower during higher call volume hours. 
 
Officer Bermingham is a K9 Handler.  His K9 partner is Dado.  He dedicates at least two (2) shifts a month to K9 Training.  Officer Bermingham is part of the NWR SWAT Team.  He is an Operator assigned to BRAVO Team.  He dedicates at least one (1) shift a month to SWAT Training. 
 
Officer Bermingham is responsible for the following statistics for 2023 (01/01/2023 – 07/31/2023):

- 22 Felony Charges 
- 147 Misdemeanor Charges 
- 30 Local Ordinances 
- 139 Citations

- 102 Vehicle Searches (34 K9 Vehicles Searches) 
- 92 K9 Usages
- 335 Incidents 
 
Officer Bermingham emulates a “team player” attitude and embodies what it should mean to be a young officer.  He is heavily involved and readily available with high character and a strong work ethic.  He also devotes his time and efforts in training fellow Officers in K9 handling.
